Iconic London Weddings at The Natural History Museum, Planned to Perfection

Picture this: making your grand entrance as the newlyweds beneath the magnificent whale skeleton in the stunning Hintze Hall —this is just one of the many magical moments that await you at the Natural History Museum. Steeped in history, The Natural History Museum is one of London's most iconic wedding venues, perfectly located in the heart of the city, right next to the V&A Museum, another wonderful wedding venue and iconic landmark.

With huge capacity, dramatic architecture and spacious interiors, the NHM is the ideal venue for larger weddings, with plenty of room for guests to dance and celebrate well into the early hours.

Weddings at the Natural History Museum

From the moment you step inside, the Natural History Museum captivates you with its breathtaking architecture and unique atmosphere. The venue offers various spaces, each with its own charm, allowing you to create a wedding experience that’s as unique as you are. While it can host large numbers of guests, the museum also provides a sense of intimacy and elegance, perfect for a memorable celebration.

Your ceremony in Hintze Hall will be nothing short of spectacular. Imagine walking down the aisle beneath the iconic whale skeleton, a jaw-dropping moment for both you and your guests. Following a candlelit ceremony, your guests will be guided to Fossil Way for drinks and canapés, perhaps with music playing softly in the background. The space exudes sophistication, and with the right atmosphere, it becomes a lively and celebratory space.

What makes a wedding at the Natural History Museum truly special is the transformation of Hintze Hall into a magical dinner and party venue. While you enjoy drinks with your guests, the team is working behind the scenes to turn the space into the perfect dinner and party setting. When your guests return to Hintze Hall after drinks, they’ll be awestruck by how the venue has been transformed in just an hour and a half.

This is one of the few venues in London with a late licence and the capacity for larger weddings. While your wedding cannot begin until after 7 pm (due to the museum being open to the public until 5 pm), you do have the option to party into the early hours.

Like any prestigious wedding venue, the museum has a curated list of vetted suppliers who have undergone a stringent selection process. Due to the unique nature of the building, there are various rules and restrictions, but with an experienced wedding planner, you can navigate these with ease.

WHY CHOOSE US AS YOUR NHM WEDDING PLANNER?

Planning a wedding at the Natural History Museum requires expertise and experience, and that’s where we come in. As seasoned London wedding planners, we have a deep understanding of the venue's unique requirements, and we work closely with the museum’s vetted suppliers to ensure your vision comes to life. From the production elements to the logistics, we’ll guide you through every step, ensuring a seamless experience.

We know that weddings at NHM require careful planning, particularly when it comes to sound and lighting. The venue has limited natural lighting, and getting the sound right for your band or DJ is crucial to setting the mood. This is why we always advise our couples to allocate a good part of their budget to professional production, ensuring that your event feels warm, vibrant, and full of energy. When guests return to Hintze Hall after drinks, they’ll be amazed by how the space has been transformed into the perfect setting for a wedding reception and celebration.

FAQs

How much is a wedding at Natural History Museum?

The minimum budget for a wedding at the Natural History Museum is £150K. This is due to the extensive staffing required to transform the museum into an event space within a short time frame, as well as the significant production needs, including lighting and sound setup for the space.

What are some restrictions that we need to be aware of?

The acoustics at the NHM can be tricky due to the high ceilings and brickwork, so a reliable production company is essential. Additionally, you are restricted by timings—since the museum is open to the public until the early evening, the earliest guests can arrive is 7pm. Therefore, you can realistically expect a ceremony to start around 7:30pm, if you choose to have it at the museum.

Can we bring in our own florist and entertainment?

You have to use a florist from the preferred suppliers list, as they are familiar with the venue, its timings, and restrictions. While you're free to choose your own music, whether a band, DJ, or another option, the production company must supply the sound equipment.
